STUBBIN WOOD ENTERPRISE PROJECT
10th May 2016. Limestone House, Cresswell
The student branded 'Stubbin Wood Enterprise Project' (SWEP) was delivered in partnership with Derbyshire Education Business Partnership (DEBP), Elmton and Creswell Village Company and Stubbin Wood School. This initiative was designed to give 10 students the opportunity to take over a business for a day; to showcase the employability skills they had all developed over the course of 3 months and encourage more employers to consider the further recruitment of people with additional needs.
It will help with college and getting a job |
The idea is to showcase the student's skills to employers ...
The students undertook a whole series of challenges, including: spending time at Limestone House to understand the requirements of running a business, identifying the opportunities available for work, developing self-awareness around their individual skills and interests, matching these to specific job roles, applying and being interviewed for positions, plus undertaking work experience and training at the venue, before marketing the event and ultimately taking over the business on Tuesday 10th May 2016 for the day and being tasked to increase the charities takings.
The guys have done a wonderful job! The day was attended by local organisations and businesses who enjoyed a lunchtime service and the opportunity to purchase goods from the retail outlet, as well as speaking to the young people about their experiences.
The group managed to double the usual funds raised by the business on a typical day and the staff were delighted! |
It was magnificent for me to work there ...
Following the resounding success of the initiative the school shall continue to work in partnership with Limestone House and be supported by DEBP to encourage other employers to work with the school, providing more valuable insight into the world of work and employment opportunities for their learners.
One day I'm going to be a chef in my own cafe ... |
The challenge didn't stop there, they went on to support the Elmton and Creswell Village Company celebration day on Sunday 22nd May at Creswell Social Centre and hosted in excess of 100 people at the event, providing lunchtime service for all those attending. The learners were all presented with certificates and were recognised by the community for their outstanding efforts. Stubbin Wood Schools Deputy Head, Susan Short, thanked the organisation for their trust and support and welcomed this new relationship as the start of so much more for their learners and showed her appreciation for being made to feel part of a community.
